Entomo-archaeology and applied entomology
Tom Hakbijl works for one day per week on entomological collection-based applied taxonomy.
The identification of insects is applied to reconstruct past environments and activities in the partly overlapping fields of archaeology and palaeoecology in the Netherlands. In a variety of smaller and larger interdisciplinary projects a cooperation exists with IBED (UvA) and the Department of Archaeology (UL). Hakbijl is a leading entomological taxonomist employed by the Naturalis Expert Center.
