Rhinoceros horns moved to protected depotPosted on 13-09-2011 by Redactie
As a safety precaution, NCB Naturalis moved the rhinoceros horns from its collection to a protected depot elsewhere in The Netherlands, by secured transport. In doing so, we aim to prevent an internationally operating band of thieves from striking at NCB Naturalis. The gang has already stolen rhino horns from more than 20 European museums, sometimes with great force. In the Leiden museum, no real rhino horns are to be found anymore. The rhinoceros on the footbridge are manmade. We regret the necessity of moving the horns, but we put the safety of our personnel, our visitors andour scientific collection above all.
