Tropical marine lake faunas and their relation to the surrounding seas
Marine lakes are little known and vulnerable ecosystems. Approximately 200 marine lakes are thought to be distributed worldwide, of which “Jellyfish Lake” from Palau (Micronesia) is probably the best known. These land-locked water bodies are thought to have originated since the last glacial maximum. They have maintained a marine character through a network of submarine connections to the adjacent sea.
