Research departments
The Research sector of Naturalis currently comprises three separate departments.
Terrestrial Zoology
(insects, myriapods, arachnids, terrestrial molluscs, amphibians and reptiles),

Marine Zoology
(marine animal groups and freshwater fishes),

Geology
(incl. palaeontology, gemmology, and mineralogy).
Each department contains between six and ten permanent scientists, and a varying number of guest researchers and students. The departments are headed by department heads who oversee research, curation, publication and other activities of the researchers. All three departments are headed by the director for research, who is responsible for the research policy and its implementation in general.
