Research interests

1. Faunal changes in Jakarta Bay (1920-2005)
With the use of the scientific collections in Naturalis, old publications and note books, nautical maps et cetera, I try  to reconstruct the coral assemblages of the Jakarta Bay area around 1920. This information is compared with recent fieldwork data (2005) to document long-term changes.

2. Cryptic fauna of coral reefs
Coral-associated organisms contribute to the sheer species richness of coral ecosystems. I work on Lithophaga (Mytilidae) and gall crabs (Cryptochiridae), symbionts of stony corals.

3. Taxonomy of the genus Lioconcha
The venerid genus Lioconcha is a rather well-known group of sturdy bivalves with characteristic dark zigzag patterns. Relatively few morphological characters are available to distinguish the species.
I am making an overview of the known species [under construction].
