Research interests

I started as co-ordinator of the Orthoptera Recording Scheme (1990-1995) and was closely involved in the production of the first volume of the book series Nederlandse Fauna. Although I have a broad interest in invertebrates, Orthoptera are still my favourite group. Recently I have picked up on an old hobby, photography, focussing on invertebrates.

The main goal of the European Invertebrate Survey - The Netherlands is studying and publishing information on Dutch invertebrates. The task of the bureau is assisting the 50 study groups which form the core of our organisation. As the current manager of the bureau of E.I.S.-NL I am involved in most faunistic projects concerning the Dutch invertebrate fauna. I am responsible for the production of a newsletter and a faunistic magazine (Nederlandse Faunistische Mededelingen). In recent years invertebrates have become more and more important in nature conservation. As a result we have been able to do an increasing number of contract jobs. In many of them I am at least sideways involved.

Research projects involved

·  Several faunistic projects of the European Invertebrate Survey - the Netherlands (e.g. Orthoptera, Odonata, Syrphidae, Hymenoptera Aculeata)

·  Publication of a new identification key and field guide on the Orthoptera of the Netherlands.

·  A volume on the Orthoptera of Italy in the book series Fauna dItalia.

·  Several small projects concerning Italian Orthoptera.
